The parade commenced at 10:00 AM. Present for the occasion were North Carolina's governor, Cameron Morrison, the US Secretary of the Interior, Hubert Work, and other representatives of state and federal agencies, who made speeches. Afterward, a football game between Guilford and Lenoir Colleges was held on Welch Field. The day concluded with a play at the Municipal Theatre in the City Hall, followed by a reception and ball at the Sheraton Hotel.
