In December 1947, Bill France brought together drivers, team owners, track operators, and mechanics in Daytona to create an organization which would set rules, run and sponsor races, provide driver insurance, and establish a points system to crown a a national champion, The Daytona Beach and Road Course held its last race in 1958. It was replaced by the Daytona International Speedway, home of the Daytona 500.
