Centenary of the War to End All Wars : High Point Men and Women in World War I

A native of Kinston, Robert Bruce Hilliard Carraway, Jr., joined the US Army as a Second Lieutenant in the Quartermasters Corps in August 1917 and served in France from July 1918 until October 1919. Carraway was honorably discharged in 1920 as a Captain.

Captain Carraway's discharge papers are found in the State Archives of North Carolina. After the war, Carraway was a businessman in High Point and ran for Congress in 1932. He died in 1948 and is buried in High Point's Oakwood Cemetery.
