The Spirit of Enterprise : High Point's 1923 Pageant of Progress
Caption:
The Pageant was photographed by T. Emile Dodamead and J.E. Jones, both local professional photographers. Before the invention of colored film, photographs were printed in shades of black and white. Special processes were needed to add color. One of the most common was to print onto pre-tinted blue and yellow paper, then hand-add highlights with pastels, watercolors, inks, oils or dyes. Dodamead used this method to create the vividly colored photographs seen here, which were then sold as souvenirs.
