The YWCA ladies were termed Joy Maidens, women who represented the joys of Progress, Good Roads, and Civilization. Aboard her float, the Spirit of Progress symbolically crowned Good Roads, in order to honor the role transportation played in the development of High Point. They were followed in the parade by High Point's automobile dealers, driving the latest 1923 models.
