The stock car racing circuit had few rules and poor tracks. Mechanic and driver Bill France (shown standing next to race car) promoted stock car races in Daytona and in the Carolinas. He began talks in 1947 to develop what is today's National Association of Stock Car Auto Racing (NASCAR).
