In 1923, when administration of the school passed from the New York Friends Society to the City of High Point, Alfred J. Griffin (seated left) resigned as principal of High Point Normal and Industrial Institute. His successor was Edward E. Curtright (seated right). However, Griffin remained at the school as chair of the history department until his retirement in 1936.
