Golf is a sport that has long been enjoyed by High Pointers of all ages and classes. The city's first privately owned course, High Point Country Club, was established in 1923 to complement the emerging Emerywood housing development. In 1931, the club renamed itself Emerywood Country Club. Following a merger with Willow Creek Golf Club in 1979, the club is once again known as High Point Country Club.
