Markets were traditionally held in January and July, a practice in keeping with the pattern established by rival furniture expositions held in New York, Grand Rapids and Chicago. "Informal" spring and autumn Markets, such as the one seen here, developed shortly after World War II, as buyers took advantage of improved highways to visit High Point between the regular shows.
