100 Block, South Main Street, High Point : A UNC-Greensboro Class Project
Caption:
United States Post Office, circa 1925 to 1930.
The United States Post Office, built in 1912 on the corner of South Main and Commerce Streets, was the city's first federal building and signified a "coming of age" for High Point. The previous post office was housed in a private structure on North Main Street. In 1932, a new Post Office was constructed a block further south, at the intersection with Green Street, and this building then served as the city's public library. It was demolished in the late 1930s, marking a new way of thinking that buildings would come and go as new development arose.

Gift of the High Point Chamber of Commerce.
