100 Block, South Main Street, High Point : A UNC-Greensboro Class Project
Caption:
Public transportation, circa 1910.
The High Point Trolley served as the first public transportation service, starts about 1912 and last until the early 1920s. The tracks were laid along an unpaved Main Street, showcasing a mix of old and new, representing a developing city in transition. The High Point Enterprise offices, the North Carolina Savings Bankd and Trust Company building, and the Elwood Hotel can be seen in the background. As a sign of progress, the tracks were eventually paved over.
