When Racing Was Racing : High Point Tracks
Caption:
Many races in the early days had few rules and, considering the lack of safety equipment, luck and skill played a large role in the longevity of a driver. Wrecks were frequent and sometimes fatal. The only fatality at the High Point Motor Speedway occurred during the warm-up to the first race in May 1941 when Eldridge Tadlock of Norfolk, Virginia, crashed his car and was killed.
