Prior to 1898, the Institute offered enrollment only to teenagers and adults. As principal, Alfred Griffin instituted a graded system of kindergarten through high school. It is probable that the students seen in this photograph of the 1906 freshman-year high school class rose through lower grades at the Institute to attain their present standing.
