Stitches in Time : Tools for Domestic Textile Arts
Caption:
Much of the popularity of the Willcox and Gibbs sewing machines was due to the fact that they were less expensive to buy and cheaper to maintain than those sold by their competitors. According to their pamphlets, Willcox and Gibbs sewing machines also economized on thread usage by using the "chain stitch" method which Gibbs had adopted. Now popular with collectors, many Willcox and Gibbs machines remain in working order.

Gift of Mrs. Katherine M. Nibblelink.
