The most revolutionary development in home and industrial textile production was the invention of the sewing machine. For the average seamstress, the machine saved hours of labor versus stitching by hand. This Willcox and Gibbs sewing machine, though not as familiar today as the more recognizable Singer brand, was one of the best selling models of the late 1800s.
