Today, most people buy their clothing from a store and replace it when it wears out. In the past, however, clothes were more often made in the home and mended to last longer. Woolens were knitted, shirts and dresses sewn, and stockings darned. Repair kits, such as this one from the Real Silk Hosiery Mills of Indianapolis, allowed women to repair runs in their silk stockings.
