Elwood Hotel. 101 South Main Street.

Businesses surrounded the new Southern Railway Depot when it was completed in 1907. The four-story Elwood Hotel was considered one of the state's finest when it was built by J. Elwood Cox in 1902. Located on the southeast corner of Depot Square, the building also housed banks and retailers. In 1967, the Hotel closed. It was demolished soon after. The site is now occupied by One Plaza Center, an eight-story office block constructed in 1972.
