The Sheraton Hotel. 400 North Main Street.

One of the city's grandest hotels, the Sheraton was completed in 1921 at a total cost of $700,000. Its purpose was to provide luxury accomodation for visitors to High Point's furniture market. During its heyday, the hotel was equipped with 130 rooms, a luxurious dining room, plus a beauty and barber shop.

Designed by architect William Lee Stoddart, the Sheraton in High Point was not affiliated with the popular hotel chain of the same name. It was part of the Foor and Robinson hotel chain along with the original O. Henry hotel in Greensboro, which was torn down, said Benjamin Briggs, executive director of Preservation Greensboro.

Originally, the Sheraton was located on the 300 block of North Main Street, but later rerouting of the city's streets led to its renumbering. In 1980, the building was repurposed as housing for senior citizens. Until 1960, the Wesley Memorial Church and its twin bell towers stood next door to the Sheraton
