The Hub of High Point : Southern Railway Passenger Station and Depot Square
North Main Street, c. 1925.

Chartered on January 27, 1849, and completed in 1856, the North Carolina Railroad became a vital link in one of the main north-south trunk lines connecting the urban Northeast with the Deep South. It was largely responsible for the growth of cities in the Piedmont NC area, and it brought into existence many others, including Durham, Burlington, High Point and Thomasville.
