High Point Furniture Market : "The World's Furniture Mart"
Caption:
The only major disruption to Market occurred during World War II. In December 1942, the Southern Furniture Exposition Building was taken over by the Demobilized Personnel Records Branch of the US Army's Adjutant General's Office. It was not until May 1946 that the building reverted to civilian control. In the meantime, only one Market was held, in January 1943. With the SFEB closed to exhibitors, temporary showroom space was found. The first post-war Market opened on January 20, 1947.
