High Point Furniture Market : "The World's Furniture Mart"
Caption:
The need for a permanent exhibition building was recognized as early as 1913. However, due to the outbreak of World War I, it was not until 1919 that construction began. On June 20, 1921, the Southern Furniture Exposition Building (SFEB) held its first Market. More than 700 buyers from 100 US cities toured 249,000 square feet of showrooms. By the end of that Market, sales topped $2.25 million. The following year, Market's first international visitors arrived from Canada.
