In 1950, construction was completed on the first phase of the Southern Furniture Exposition Building's South Wing. The last brick was laid by Virginia Thayer Jackson, who was employed by the SFEB from 1936 until her retirement, including a long stint as the Building's Administrative Manager. Later, the International Textile Market Association's annual Virginia Jackson Design Competition was named in her honor. Jackson helped found the competition in 1995.
