Originally from Kernersville, Seborn Perry was one of High Point's first settlers. In 1851, he bought land adjacent to the North Carolina railroad's intersection with the Fayeteville and Western plank road. There, Perry operated a successful dry goods business and built the first residential dwelling in what would become High Point. In 1868, he served as a town commissioner. Perry also provided financial backing to William Henry Snow for the establishment of High Point's first factory.

No information is known about the artist, who signed himself "Frederick."
